- The programme has teaching staff with extensive experience in supervising doctoral theses.
- Theses supervised in joint supervision with other foreign universities and the International mention in the doctoral degree with the participation of international experts will be encouraged.
- The Academic Committee will consider multiple supervision, in cases of thematic interdisciplinarity or doctoral programmes developed in national or international collaboration.
Once admitted to the PhD programme, the Academic Committee will assign each PhD student a tutor, a doctor with accredited research experience, linked to the programme, who will be responsible for ensuring the interaction of the student with the Academic Committee. The Academic Committee, having heard the PhD student, may modify the appointment if there are justified reasons.
Once enrolled on the programme, a Personalised Activities Document will be drawn up for each PhD student for the purposes of the individualised control register referred to in article 2.5 of RD 99/2011. This document will include all the activities of interest for the development of the PhD student, regularly reviewed by the tutor and the thesis supervisor and evaluated by the Academic Committee.
Within a maximum period of six months from enrolment, the Academic Committee will assign each PhD student a PhD thesis supervisor, who may or may not coincide with the tutor referred to in the previous section. This assignment may be made to any Spanish or foreign doctor with accredited research experience, regardless of the university, centre or institution in which he/she provides his/her services. The Academic Committee, having heard the PhD student, may modify the appointment if there are justified reasons.
- The supervisor of the doctoral thesis will be responsible for the coherence and suitability of the training activities, the impact and novelty of the subject matter of the doctoral thesis in his/her field and for guiding the planning and, where appropriate, its adaptation to that of other projects and activities in which the PhD student is enrolled.
- The thesis may be co-supervised by other PhD students when there are academic reasons, such as thematic interdisciplinarity or programmes developed in national or international collaboration, with the prior authorisation of the Academic Committee.
Before the end of the first year, the PhD student will draw up a Research Plan that will include at least the methodology to be used and the objectives to be achieved, as well as the means and the time schedule to achieve them.
- This plan may be improved and detailed throughout their stay on the programme and must be endorsed by the tutor and the director.
- Annually, the programme's academic committee will evaluate the research plan and the activities document together with the reports to be issued by the tutor and the director.
- A positive evaluation will be a prerequisite for continuing on the programme.
- In the event of a negative evaluation, which will be duly justified, the PhD student must be re-evaluated within a period of six months, for which purpose a new research plan must be drawn up.
- In the event of a new negative evaluation, the PhD student will be permanently withdrawn from the programme.
- In the event of conflict, the parties concerned shall submit to the decision of the bodies provided for in the regulations of the university in which the student is enrolled.
Once admitted to the doctoral programme, the Student Activity Document (DAD) will be opened, whose design will follow the model established in the regulations for the presentation of theses at the UVa and whose support will be electronic, in order to obtain the necessary reports and certifications.
- Each and every one of the training activities carried out by the PhD student within the programme will be recorded in the DAD. The student, tutor, thesis supervisor and programme coordinator will have different levels of access to the DAD (by means of a password).
- Thus, the tutor/director will authorise the activity to be carried out and, to this end, will sign the authorisation. Once the doctoral student has carried out the activity, he/she will include the corresponding proof of the activity and the tutor and/or supervisor will verify the activity.
- Finally, the tutor and/or thesis supervisor will include in this document the annual reports of the PhD student's activities and the programme coordinator will include the annual evaluations.
